"Mandoline" from Gabriel Fauré's Cinq mélodies de Venise
Performed at the Senior Recital of Benjamin Gonczi, Tenor (11/30/22). Joined by Andrea DeVito, Piano.
A wonderful massage for vocal folds and ear drums alike, Mandoline is truly a joy to deliver, and to listen to. Short and sweet and to the point, Fauré paints the most incredibly saccharine-yet-melancholy picture in such a short amount of time, doing justice to the overall affect of Antoine Watteau's Fêtes Galantes, the artistic inspiration behind Arthur Rimbaud's words.
