About
Benjamin Gonczi is a music educator, conductor, vocalist, and composer originally from Wilmington, DE. Growing up, Benjamin always found unique ways to exhibit his innate musicality. From picking up The Entertainer on the piano solely from listening to the ice cream truck go by as a child, to focusing intently on the instrumentation of the soundtracks of the video games he played, Benjamin has always been hardwired to seek music out wherever and whenever he could. He fell in love with the choral art at an early age, going on to direct a small choral ensemble in high school; this formative experience of musical facilitation would inspire him to receive a Bachelor's in Music Education from the University of Miami. Throughout his tenure at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, Benjamin sang under the direction of Dr. Amanda Quist as a member of the renowned Frost Chorale; through this ensemble, he has had the opportunity to perform under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas alongside the New World Symphony, and collaborate with world-renowned chamber ensemble, Voces8. During his time as an undergraduate student, Benjamin also served as a student conductor and Teaching Assistant for the Miami Children's Chorus, through which he achieved his first compositional world-premiere, and as a staff singer with the Master Chorale of South Florida. Currently, he serves as the Graduate Choral Activities Manager at the University of Delaware, where he is pursuing his Master of Music in Choral Conducting. Through this experience, Benjamin has had the pleasure of honing his craft in a variety of ways, from serving as the clinician for two public school honor choirs, to conducting the pit orchestra for the University of Delaware Lyric Theater’s Fall 2024 production. Benjamin’s tutelage at the University of Delaware has also served as a conduit for his participation in the Delaware Choral Scholars’ international competitive choir, which received a number-one world ranking from Interkultur following the 2024 World Choir Games in Auckland, New Zealand. Upon finishing graduate school, Benjamin hopes to be able to share his fiery passion for choral education, performance, and composition with as many people as possible!
